Declamation is a contest - every student in 6th-11th grade memorizes a famous speech and performs it for their English class. The English teachers pick the best ones to be semi-finalists, and they perform their declamations in front of a panel of Cambridge judges. The best of that group (10 students) then perform theirs for the entire Cambridge community and a panel of outside judges. I think the winners actually get a cash prize. It's one of Cambridge's most treasured traditions.

wow. that is cool. i've never heard of that before. it's like academic acting. sounds like my kind of competition.
